Fashion Tips: The Long the Short and the Ugly

Twiggy was the swinging 60's top model and is still going strong as the face of Marks and Spencer, a mid price range UK high street shop. She has recently pronounced that only the very thin or the very young can get away with wearing a mini-skirt. So, where does that leave the rest of us mere mortals? Actually, if you can remember when Twiggy hit the scenes you should have hung up your mini-skirt years ago! In fact, if middle aged spread has hit your knees, and unless you are Demi Moore and can afford to have them liposuctioned, then you are probably quite happy covering them up.

Long skirts seem to be predominant on the catwalks this season but can everybody carry them off? If you are a businesswoman, for example, turning up for that so important business meeting wearing a skirt down to your ankles, will mean you probably won't be taken too seriously. You could end up looking like an ageing hippy and when were hippies ever taken seriously? Although we ladies may hate to admit it, in the business world, women have to dress smartly and elegantly to merit consideration. I am not saying that you won't get noticed in a mini skirt and a low cut top but that is that the kind of notice you really want to get? A jacket or blouse with a tailored knee skimming skirt is more the look to go for. It makes you appear like a grown up (even if you don't always feel like one!) whereas a long skirt gives you more of the "little girl dressing up as a princess" image. But please, avoid calf length outfits if you have slightly thickened ankles.

But, a long skirt or dress for evening wear is perfect as it does indeed make you feel more feminine and princessy and the added bonus is that it can cover up a multitude of real or imaginary imperfections such as pudgy knees and those "oops, should have booked a wax" legs without having to resort to hideous thick granny tights! If you are a petite woman under 1 metre 60 cms then if you must wear a long dress, do wear high heels otherwise you will look even shorter! After all the look you are surely seeking is Snow White not one of the seven dwarves!

Fashion Tips for Girls

All girls like to look pretty, yes, even the nerdy and the studious ones have this hidden desire to turn into divas and make every hunk swoon over them. That is why we see so many parlors, fashion magazines, designers, whose business is flourishing day by day. It is a well-known fact that the first thing that attracts a man in a woman is her physical beauty. That is why we find women of all ages going to any lengths to look attractive and appealing. The way a girl dresses up and carries herself, adds a lot to her physical beauty. Right kind of clothes and make up can make even an ordinary girl, look like a beauty queen. At the same time, a gorgeous woman who is dressed badly, may not look so appealing. So, what things should be kept in mind by girls while dressing up? Here are some useful fashion tips for girls, which they can make use of, for everyday dressing as well as while dressing for special occasions.

General Fashion Tips for Girls

Comfort is the Key
The first and probably, the most important of fashion tips for girls, is to wear such clothes and shoes, in which they are completely at ease. If you are dressed in something which makes you uncomfortable, it is bound to show on your face, making you seem awkward and under confident. So, remember to always wear clothes in which you are comfortable.

Dress according to Body Type
When choosing clothes, always opt for the ones, which help to hide your flaws and bring up your attractive features. A good way to ensure that is to wear clothes according to your body type. If you are top-heavy, i.e you have a heavy bust and broad shoulders, wear shirts and blouses which draw attention away from your upper body. A top-heavy girl should wear a "V neck", shirts with horizontal lines and small collars or minimal designs on them. A girl who is bottom heavy, should avoid wearing body hugging jeans as it will bring every one's attention to her heavy posterior. Instead, she should wear loose, low waist pants or straight skirts, teemed with tight tops to bring attention to her upper body, instead of the lower body.

Appropriate Make up
Appropriate make up is very essential to get the right look. During the day, one should go in for a more natural look, and avoid loud make up colors such as blue or green. One of the good fashion tips for girls in middle school, is to wear only a light lipstick, mascara, pale eye shadow and an eyeliner while at school. And even if you are planning to use foundation or other make up bases, it is advised that you try them on the weekends first, taking help from your mother or elder sister, and once you become adept at it, you may apply the same to school. As far as evening make up or make up for parties is concerned, one can try to experiment with colors that match the outfit. In the night, dark make up colors such as black, brown, blue, look really good.

Top 10 Fashion Tips for 2011

With the coming of the new year, also comes new trends in fashion and as we say good-bye to all that was in 2010 (a lot of hot pants, knee high socks, lace, leather and cut out clothing) we now say hello to the fashion trends and tips for 2011. Below are our top 10 tips for best fashion advice that can be given to anyone during any time of the year.

1. Choose the clothes that suit your body
No matter what trendsetting or fashion forward clothing you purchase if it will not compliment your body-then you'd better put it back on the store rack!

2. On Jewelry: Less is not always more
(For Men) You must not over accessorize, do not wear more than 3 pieces of jewelry. Silver is becoming popular these days so you might want to invest.
(For Women) Less is not always more especially during the summer, you can accessorize you summer outfits with big and bold accessories. Wooden beads and citrus colored bangles are a good sight during the summer.

3. In the winter: Accessorize!
During the cold weather add a little pop of color to the weather, you can accessorize with sweaters and scarves, ensure it matches your outfit though! Try to mix and match things, if you are wearing tight fitting jeans then a big sweater will be a good contrast and will compliment your slender legs.

4. Keep your shoes and belts looking brand new:
Shoes and belts can catch the eye of other people so make sure that you invest in a good pair of shoes and a nice belt and make sure that they are regularly kept clean and shiny - there's nothing worse than a pair of muddy boots combined with a smart dress!

5. If you look the part then you have to smell the part.
There is no use in looking great if you smell something like the cat dragged in. So if you take time and invest in what you will be wearing and what you will look like then make sure that you throw in some good perfume, cologne or after-shave.
